The recent Switch remake looks fantastic and allows players to not only decorate their homes, but also the areas surrounding them. If you're a fan of Animal Crossing then you'll love Friends of Mineral Town and may actually find that you prefer it thanks to the game's tighter structure and well fleshed out characters.
Sadly, there aren't quite as many items of furniture available nor does the game receive seasonal updates like the AC titles but it's a great game nonetheless. Staxel looks and plays like the love-child of Minecraft and Stardew Valley and although it doesn't quite measure up to either of the aforementioned titles, there's still a lot to love here. The vibrant color palette found throughout the game makes for some stunning visuals and there are plenty of craftable items with which homes can be built and decorated.
Some might be put off by the title's complete lack of narrative, but those looking for a game that allows them to unleash their creativity without the distractions that go hand in hand with traditional story modes should have a lot of fun with Staxel. It's a game that's easy to get lost in and one that will help you to find plenty of inspiration thanks to its simplicity. Things might still be a little rough around the edges, but the base-building elements of Ark: Survival Evolved have come a long way since the game first launched.
