Vista xp printer sharing access denied

I downloaded newer drivers from the manufacturer's website and installed them. I'm just wondering why Vista has to copy the driver for the printer from the computer the printer is connected to Why can't the driver be installed some other way? Would save a lot of trouble. Monday, December 29, AM. This is phenominal - it's the first thing that has worked!

I've also made sure policy settings are applied to both users and computers OUs Nothing, zip, nada Didn't have this issue when testing Win 7, it's only cropped up recently, I'm currently guessing an undocumented security "feature" in SP1 as Microsoft tend to enjoy a la file copying to win server. I had been using my shared printer on an XP machine for about 3 years. Printing to it with a Vista, home premium machine. Never had a problem installing or using the printer on the Vista machine. Due to circumstances too long to explain here, I had to reinstall my printer on the XP machine.

That's when I started getting "Access Denied" on the Vista machine. I tried many of the fixes listed on Technet and other places to no avail. Finally found and tried this one. Can't thank you enough. Friday, August 5, AM. De nuevo, gracias. The server print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler on the server or restart the server machine". I have restarted both the computers, and the printer but still to no avail. Could you help me with this further?

And I am using windows vista home premium. I have a network with 1 computer connected via ethernet and the other 3 use wireless plus what I will call the print server. All of the XP computers can access the printer on the Print server. The Vista can not. The printer Properties does show that the document gets to the spooler. All of the documents have the same content. I even named and saved the document on the Vista. To capture this information, I had to turn off the printer and hold it in the Spooler.

If the printer is connected directly to the Vista LT, it will work as a local printer so I know that the drivers are good. This the second problem that I have of this type. I have a firends computer set up in a very similar manner and her's fails also. I have a HP G85 all in one and she is using a Lexmark all in one. We did get special drivers for her's from Lexmark. Vista supported the G85 and no additional drivers were needed.

I have 3 printers on my home metwork and they all fail in the same manner. Can you help me in this situation. This is the first problem that I have not been able to solve since entering the business 20 years ago. I have found nothing in the Tech forums addressing this. If anyone finds a fix, please drop me a line. I was told to go out and get a Windows machine ans set it up as a printe server. It looks like that really is not the fix either. The problem is that there is no data recorded as coming from the Vista computer to the spooler.

The test is easy to set up. Open the properties of your network printer on the computer that it is installed in and connected physically to. Open word, no text is necessary, and print the blank sheet to that printer. Next go to the Vista machind and do the same thing. If you have another XP or 98 on the network. Try that one and it should show 1 page and some size. This proved to me that lthe shared printer is working but Vista is not sending anything to print.

It is not that Vista can not print. If I take the Vista computer to the printer and connect via the USB and install it as a local printer, I do get a page.

Where is MS when you need them???????????? I do have the screen print of the Spooler indications. JPG Ivan Collver ivanc Solution i hope it works 1. Reconnect the printer o the xp PC and share the printer. Windows Script Host. Line: 9. Char: 1. Error: permission denied. Code: A Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error. Any suggestions you have for curing the error and installing the driver would be appreciated.

I am running Vista Business 32 on a Presario laptop with 1. I am having the same problem. I have two computers set up in my office. The XP computer is attached to a router so the Vista laptop can be on the network. I have done everything listed above and get an error while completing step Select "Create a new port" radio button and choose "Local Port" from the drop down menu 6.

Press Next 7. In the "Enter Port Name:" box enter the shared folder path from 'Step 2'. Select the Printer driver from the list provided or use the "Have Disk" button to install the correct Vista driver if it is not in the built-in list. It is critical that the driver you use is Vista compatible. Press next Give the printer a distinct name and choose whether to set as the default. Press Next Print a test page to verify functionality.

Press Finish Hope this helps. I found this instruction and it worked in the first try!! I am normally not active on forums, but I just want to say Thank You!!

It worked. I too have been pulling my hair out over this issue and I hope that this solves it. What is paricularly bothersome to me is that I have been able to acces the printer from the vista machines when it was attached to an older XP box running home addition.

The Vista machines have always been able to access the XP home machines even when the vista drivers were not available. Sharing works fine other than that and I could share it without the drivers to 2 Vista laptops when attached to the old XP box or laptop.

I have uninstalled, reinstalled changed protocalls bindngs etc to no avial and was wondering if it was an AMD thing. I have spent days reading articles and forums while trying to run my business as well. So I Just cannot thank you enough for htis. Thanks Again Matt Z. Thanks for the help. I used the directions given and used the Photosmart driver which comes with Vista. It works great. Thanks again. I have wireless printing to the photosmart This solved it perfectly for the exact same problem occuring for my combination of Win XP Pro computer as print server and my Win XP x64 client.
